All Star Western #33 preview.

DC Comics have released this preview of the art for All Star Western #33 (out this week). The cover is by the rather brilliant Dave Johnson (no relation :-)  )

This was my last work on the title, Darwyn Cooke will be handling the very final issue (#34).

All Star Western #33 sneak peek

Here's a look at a few panels from All Star Western #33 (out in just under a month, I believe), which will be my last foray into the world of Jonah Hex for the time being. The series will have one issue to go after this one, but that is drawn by Darwyn Cooke.

These art the art in it's 'raw state', before it's been cleaned up, & before I've added panel orders, which these days I do digitally in 'post production' to borrow a movie making term. All these are done over blueline printouts of my pencils, & inked with Uni-pin fineliners & my trusty Pentel brush-pen.

I've been careful not to choose images which contain any spoilers, so hopefully this should only enhance your enjoyment of the issue, not ruin it!!

Pandora:Trinity Of Sin, art dump.

Last year I was tasked with helping out on the book Pandora; Trinity Of Sin for DC comics. Initially this just entailed providing thumbnails/layouts for regular penciller Francis Portella, however, eventually this progressed to doing full art on a few pages of a couple of issues.

Presented here are a scans of some of the work I did. I have decided to do full colour scans so you can see how I have utilised my blueline print out technique. Those of you have followed this blog for a while will be no doubt familiar with my process, for those who aren't, take a look here, which explains it in detail. The scans are shown in no particular order, other than I have grouped the layouts, the pencils & the inks together. Any questions/comments are welcome.

I Shot The Sheriff!

Well... DREW him actually.

This salty looking dude appears in issue #31 of All Star Western. Issue #30 (with the rather groovy cover by The Urban Barbarian (Dan Panosian) himself, pictured below, is in a comic shop near you now.

A couple of panels from All Star Western #30

Just a couple of select panels that don't contain any spoilers... anyone who has any interest will be aware already that Tallulah Black appears in the issue. He she & Hex are, displaying their very unique courtship routine.

The 'drunk' secondary character was based on former Hollywood (now no longer with us) movie star Ed Begley Sr. Why? Well I saw 12 Angry Men again recently, & I just like his face.

Anyway, the issue is out in about a month or so I think.

All Star Western #28

Just a quick post here to mention that my run on All Star Western starts with issue #28 that hit's the shelves this coming week.

I did some work on the title a year or so ago, on the back up '19th Century Stormwatch' strips, which I enjoyed immensely, & which one fine day I'll have to do a post on. This time, however,  I'm working on the lead 'Jonah Hex' strip. For various scheduling reasons the first episode was split between myself & Fabrizio Fiorentino, with me pencilling & inking the first 12 pages & Fabrizio doing the remaining 10.

The 'tight as a drum' story is by Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray, the cover (below) is by Darwyn Cooke. As you will be able to see from that cover image & the first few pages of my contribution, the story starts off in the present day, though before long Clint.. err, I mean 'Jonah' is back in the old west.

So pick up a copy, & tell anyone who is interested in good old fashioned action storytelling to go get themselves a copy too.
